Green Wood Housing Coop is running a loanstock investment drive this year! We are seeking loans as part of our long-term business plan and in order to maintain our property. We can offer between 0-3% interest, repaid in full at the end of an agreed term.
Green Wood is a housing co-operative established in Chapeltown, Leeds, in 2018. We own a three-storey Victorian terraced house and have six members: Rhian, Jess, Natalia, Anna, Savva, and Kai. We live communally: cooking together, looking after our home and caring for each other. We believe that housing co-operatives are a hugely important way that we can create secure, affordable, low-impact and collectively managed housing for ourselves, as well as transferring property out of the private housing market and into collective ownership.
Since its conception in 2018, Green Wood has provided long-term housing to twelve people, and hosted many more guests in our ‘tiny room’. We regularly host visiting friends, activists, friends-of friends who are in between housing, and people from other co-ops. By investing in Green Wood, you would enable us to convert our basement into a space which can be used for meetings and social events, so that we can continue sharing our space with others.
Throughout the first five years, our finances have been well managed by our finance team and we have consistently met the objectives of our robust financial plan. We have kept up with all loanstock and mortgage repayments, and negotiated the "Cost of Living crisis" so that we can continue to provide affordable housing for our members while ensuring the financial stability of the co-op. We realise that with the "Cost of Living crisis" ongoing it is a difficult time for a loanstock drive, but it also reminds us more than ever of the need to provide affordable, secure housing.
We are now asking for loans, as we need to raise loanstock in 2023 as part of our long-term business plan and in order to maintain our property. We can offer between 0-3% interest, repaid in full at the end of an agreed term. We are offering rates which are competitive with mainstream savings accounts, as well as the opportunity to invest securely and ethically in an organisation which provides affordable and secure housing and community to its members.
